Record sentence for animal abuser - October 2015

A dairy worker, Michael James Whitelock, has been handed down New Zealand’s longest-ever prison sentence for animal cruelty (four and a half years’ imprisonment and a 10-year disqualification from owning animals).

This sentence was given after cows were beaten, and had their tails broken and were shot in the kneecaps, on a farm that Whitelock managed.
