New Zealand Animal Law Association assists K9 Rescue and Rehoming Charitable Trust – July 2015

The New Zealand Animal Law Association recently assisted a client to set up a charitable trust for her dog rescue and rehoming project.

The result is the K9 Rescue and Rehoming Charitable Trust, based in Christchurch.It all began with a great idea: a project to provide unwanted and lost dogs with the safety, security and care they need, by rescuing them, providing basic veterinary care, and finding a new home for them.

In addition, the project involves a community outreach programme which aims to educate young people and their families about how to treat dogs in a way that is good for both people and dogs.

Our solicitor helped to draft the original trust deed and constitution, get the trust registered as an incorporated charitable trust, applied to have it registered as a charity under the Charities Act 2005, and advised on various other aspects of setting up and running a charitable trust.

By completing the work on a no-charge basis, the organisation was instead able to redirect its limited funds toward its important work rescuing and re-homing abandoned dogs.We are pleased to announce that K9 Rescue and Rehoming is now a registered charity.
